Whether it is for dog walking Sherman Oaks or dog walking in other cities we service, the shortest walk/visit offered at Rufus and Delilah for dog walking is 30 minutes. Occasionally we are asked for a 15 minute visit by people with senior dogs, smaller dogs, heat sensitive dogs, or dogs who don’t like to walk much. I personally feel that 15 minutes isn’t enough time to spend with a client’s dog even if their dog doesn’t like to go out for a walk that is more than a few minutes. We custom tailor each walk/visit to meet each clients needs so for those dogs who don’t like to be out on a walk for more than a few minutes at a time we can spend time playing with them, petting them, brushing them or a doing a combination of all of these things.
When a client books us for a 30 minute dog walk, we usually spend about 22 minutes of the 30 minute visit out on the dog walk. When we first arrive at a client’s home, we like to give our client’s dogs some love and attention. The dogs are usually quite excited to see their walker as they know when the sitter arrives for the visit that our time and focus is exclusively on them. Then we put on their leash and take them for a walk. When we return from the walk, we spend a few more minutes leaving the client a note, giving their dog fresh water and a treat if allowed, and a little more time for petting before leaving. I believe that even for those dogs who only want to be outside for a few minutes they benefit from getting added one on one time with their sitter for petting and/or playtime before the sitter leaves.
I have an English Bulldog, Beatrice and a French Bulldog, Florence. 
They are both heat sensitive and they can’t handle extended walks when it is over 80 degrees. On occasion our English Bulldog can’t handle longer walks if her paws are bothering her from allergies or if she has interdigital cysts. Even for them if I am gone for extended hours in the spring or summer when I book a dog walker, I feel that they wouldn’t get a sufficient amount of attention in 15 minutes even if they are only outside for a walk for 5 minutes.
What do you think is the right amount of time for a shorter dog walk or visit for a dog that doesn’t like to go on extended walks?
